City-to-City Public Transit

Several operators offer public transit service into and returning from Lexington to surrounding counties.  Most providers include stops (or a stop can be requested) at the Lextran transit center, allowing you to connect to public transit routes throughout the city of Lexington.  Most providers require that you contact them 24 hours in advance.

Bluegrass Ultra-Transit Service (BUS)

Operated by Blue Grass Community Action Partnership, BUS offers a number of public transportation options in the Bluegrass Region.  Services are summarized below.  Please visit BUS’s website for more details or you can call 1-800-456-6588:

JessLex:  Regular service between the city of Nicholasville and Lexington Tuesday-Friday (6am-6pm) and Saturday (8am-1pm).   Stops include Jessamine County Senior Center, Jessamine County Public Library, Walmart, two health clinics and the Lextran Transit Center.  The service is available to the general public and all vehicles are wheelchair accessible.  Deviations from the route up to one-half mile are allowed with 24 hour notice.  The fare is $5 round trip – Veterans with photo ID are free.

Frankfort Connection:  This service is between Frankfort and Lexington is available Monday through Saturday to the general public with 24 hour notice.  There are several stops in Frankfort, at the Kroger in Versailles and several Lexington destinations.  Deviations from the route up to one-half mile are allowed with 24 hour notice.  The fare is $10 round trip – Veterans with photo ID are free (the fare to Kroger only is $5).

Danville Connection:  This service is between Danville and Lexington is available Monday through Saturday to the general public with 24 hour notice.  There are several stops in Danville and Lexington.  Deviations from the route up to one-half mile are allowed with 24 hour notice.  The fare is $10 round trip – Veterans with photo ID are free.

FTSB (Federated Transportation Services of the Bluegrass, Inc.)

FTSB offers transportation into and returning from Fayette County from the following areas.  These services are open to the general public and all buses are wheelchair accessible.  Please visit FTSB’s website for more details or you can call 1-800-848-0989:

Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas (BHN) Intercity Service – This service is available Monday through Friday and includes stops in Cynthiana, Carlisle and Paris traveling to the Lexington Airport, Greyhound Bus Station and Lextran Transit Center where you can connect to Lextran routes serving Lexington.  The fare is $5 one way and $10 round trip.

Mor’Trans Intercity Service:  This InterCity bus service is available to bring riders from Morehead to Lexington and Ashland.  The route leaves daily from the Moorehead Walmart Monday – Saturday with stops in Lexington at the Lextran Transit Center, Greyhound station and Bluegrass Airport. Kentucky River Foothill Development Council, Inc.: 

Foothills Inter-City Bus Service connects Madison, Clark, Estill, and Powell Counties with the larger transit systems in Lexington, Louisville, and Northern Kentucky. Rides must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance, and the cost is $20.00 for a round trip. All Inter-City trips must be dropped off at a bus stop, bus station, train station, or airport in the destination city (i.e. Lexington or Louisville Airport).
